WORD OF THE DAY -- largesse (n):  generosity in giving; lavish contributions

Period 1
English 12AP

Today, I collected college essays and summer reading essay revisions.  I distributed literature anthologies.  There will be a book check tomorrow -- each book must have a book cover; this will count as a homework grade.  We discussed terms such as elegy, alliteration, caesura, kennings, and exile.  Also, began reading "The Seafarer."  Finish reading the poem for homework.

Period 3
English 12CP

Today, we looked at the original Old English text of Beowulf and tried to figure out any familiar words.  Then, we read the Prologue in translation.  Finally, we read an introduction from Burton Raffel, the poem's translator.

Homework:  Study for test tomorrow.

Period 4
English 12CP

Test today on the introduction to Anglo-Saxon literature.  Afterwards, students self-edited their college essays before handing them in.  Before leaving, they copied the definition of epic poetry from the board.

Homework:  Keep reading your research paper book and study your words!

Have a great night...see you tomorrow!
