Today was the third and (yes!) final summer reading assessment for your self-selected novel. I collected your homework -- the responses to the readings I distributed on Friday. Please note that several of you did not hand in your homework and normally, such a lapse would earn you NO CREDIT. I will allow you this one time to hand it in on Wednesday, September 12th.
I returned your graded Othello essays this morning. You may revise either this one or the Wuthering Heights essay. The due date for your revisions is Thursday, September 20th.
Rough drafts of your college essays are due on Thursday, September 13th.

I returned your interview essays. I reviewed 4 basic grammar/style rules. They are:
a. commas are necessary in a compound sentence with 2 independent clauses
b. nouns and pronouns must agree -- singular with singular and plural with plural
c. do not use "however" at the beginning of a sentence; place it within the sentence
d. do not address your reader in most formal, academic writing; in other words, do not use "you"
Revised essays are due on Wednesday, September 12th. Books were distributed today. There will be a book check on Wednesday. Be sure to have your book covered.
Finally, for homework, read the introduction on pages 4-10 and take notes. I will check notebooks on Wednesday.
