Grade 10 CP

Period 1  Today, students worked on their poems in class; then we briefly discussed the structure of a Shakespearean sonnet.
Homework due Friday, 10-1-2010>a typed copy of an original poem emulating the structure of "Swift Things Are Beautiful" by Elizabeth Coatsworth.

Period 4  Today, we reviewed the new vocabulary words and the structure of a Shakespearean sonnet; then we read a sonnet by an American poet -- Edna St. Vincent Millay; next we learned the definition of another type of poem called a villanelle and read Roethke's "The Waking".

Periods 3 & 6  WORD OF THE DAY:  kindle
Reviewed last night's reading from pages 41 to 50; then read the Unferth section from the Heaney translation.
