Grade 10 CP
Period 1 Today, students selected from a variety of photographs one image that they felt might inspire them; then, we read "Swift Things Are Beautiful" by Elizabeth Coatsworth and students were asked to emulate the poets style, using opposites like black-white, stripes-spots, mountains-valleys; this exercise is practice in appreciating the rigor of producing a poem using a definite structure.
Homework due tomorrow, Wednesday, 9-29-10>write a paragraph of no fewer than 7 sentences in which you use 5-7 of the new vocabulary words.
Period 4 In considering structure of poetry, students today learned about sonnets and read Sonnet 18 by Wm. Shakespeare on p. 866 of their anthologies.
Homework due tomorrow, Wednesday, 9-29-10>an original poem (typed) emulating the style of "Swift Things Are Beautiful".
Grade 12 CP
Period 3 WORD OF THE DAY: noisome
Today, there was a pop quiz on the readings we did in class yesterday; began reading the Beowulf selection on page 40 of our literature anthologies.
