English 10 CP
Period 1 Today, the students practiced explicating one poem from their anthologies and then worked in groups to share their thoughts; 10 new vocabulary words
Homework due tomorrow, 9-28-10>write a paragraph of no fewer than 7 sentences in which you use 5-7 of the vocabulary words; also, books will be checked for covers!
Period 4 New vocabulary words; today, after reading "Swift Things Are Beautiful", students brainstormed opposites like black-white, yes-no, light-dark to create their own poems using Coatsworth's symmetrical style. This exercise is a practice in understanding structure in poetry.

For those of you lucky enough to be reading this post tonight, there may be a "pop" quiz tomorrow on the information we learned about Hrothgar and his ancestry thus far -- questions like, "Who is Shild in relation to Hrothgar?" (his great-grandfather) and "What is the name of Hrothgar's hall?" (Herot).
