A thought for today:  "First ponder, then dare."

Periods 4 and 6 Grade 10  Read aloud from White Crow.  Introduced 10 new vocabulary words:  incessant, intricate, lucid, posthumous, prim, sardonic, superfluous, supplant, taunt, tenacious.  For homework>write a paragraph using 15 of our new vocabulary words.  Continued with essay writing in groups.  Final, typed drafts due Monday, 1-23-12.

Period 7 Grade 12 WORD OF THE DAY:  zealot.  Continued with Act I scene 1 in Hamlet.  Explained some clues for figuring out subtext.  For example, "thou" is an informal form of address while "you" is formal, more respectful.  The royal "we" is used by monarchs when talking about larger issues and "I" for more personal issues.  For homework, read Act I scene 2, complete responses to writing prompts, and pay particular attention to Hamlet's 1st soliloquy.

Period 1 Grade 10 Read from Unwind.  Continued our close reading of "In Blackwater Woods" by Mary Oliver.  Almost done...tomorrow, we will begin writing the essay.

Have a great night, everyone!  See you tomorrow.
