WELCOME to the new school year 2011-2012!

GRADE 10
PERIODS 4 and 6

At the start of each class, I read aloud to the class for 10-15 minutes.  At the moment, we are reading Unwind, a book somewhat in the future about 3 teenagers running from the "Juvey cops".  Each is being "unwound" for a different reason, but for all of them, the process means death.

There are 6-7 journal entries so far.  I will check journals after 10 entries for a quiz grade.  Expectations include the following:  a.  date is clearly marked/b.  writing prompt has been copies into your journal/c.  your response is a minimum of 3 sentences (complete sentences) and demonstrates thoughtfulness and reasonableness.

We have also had two units of vocabulary words for a total of 40 words.  There have been two quizzes on these words.  Unit #3 begins on Monday, 10-3-2011.

We have visited the Library and each student has begun reading a book of his own choice independently.  An outside reading project has been assigned and is due on Friday, 10-21-2011.

Finally, we are working on reading informational text.  Currently, we are reading about bullying in schools and debating who is responsible for kids' behavior inside and outside school.

This week is NECAP testing and STAR testing (for 9th and 10th graders) so daily schedules will be crazy!
