Period 1 Grade 10
Students continued with their persuasive essays.  It appears that most need an extra day to finish up their final drafts.  Students were asked to bring in their outside reading books so they can read while classmates are writing.

Period 7 and 3 Grade 12
Word of the Day:  irascible (ill-tempered; easily angered)
Period 3 students had a vocabulary quiz today on the words from Frankenstein.  Period 7 will have their quiz on Thursday, 4-12.  We continue our reading of Shelley's Gothic novel.  Do not forget to choose a book title for fourth quarter independent reading.  Poem recitations begin on Thursday, April 12th.  (Please refer to the assignment description for details.)

Period 4 Grade 10
We read chapter 12 in Todd Strasser's Can't Get There From Here.  We reviewed elements of tragedy and tragic heroes.  We also finished Act IV of Julius Caesar.  Be sure to study for the vocabulary quiz tomorrow, Wednesday 4-11-12.  Do not forget your outside reading for the fourth quarter.  Details for the final project are forthcoming.

Have a great night!  See you tomorrow!!

Period 1 Grade 10

We begin the 4th quarter with a common task -- writing a persuasive essay.  Today and tomorrow, students will be writing their essays with Wednesday reserved for students who were absent.  Plans are to complete Julius Caesar this week.  A vocabulary quiz and a final test on Caesar are planned in the near future.

Periods 3 and 7 Grade 12
Word of the Day:  elicit (to draw forth or bring out)

Much is happening as we begin the 4th quarter.  The class continues with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.  Poetry recitations are scheduled for the end of the week.  Also, students must have a book title by Friday or forfeit 10 points off the final outside reading project.  There is a vocabulary quiz on the 20 words selected from the novel mid-week.

Periods 4 and 6 Grade 10

Common tasks are over and we are finally returning to Julius Caesar!  Last week, students were given information on the characteristics of tragedies and tragic heroes.  We will read Act 4 this week.  Students are responsible for their journal entries up to this point.  The journals count as a test grade.  There is a vocabulary quiz this week on the Unit 8 words (from assurance to warp).  Once we are done with the play, we will begin an activity on character analysis called "body biographies."

Have a great night!  See you tomorrow...
